Cyclonic storm Asna moves away from Karachi
PMD says metropolis may still experience light rain or drizzle
Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced that the effects of cyclonic storm Asna have significantly diminished as the storm has moved far from Karachi's coastline.
According to the Met Office, while the main impact of the storm has passed, Karachi may still experience light rain or drizzle due to the lingering overcast conditions.
The strong, gusty winds that accompanied the storm have also subsided, with morning winds blowing from the northeast at a mild speed of 12 kilometers per hour.
The weather department reported that the storm has now moved approximately 500 kilometers southeast of Karachi, 350 kilometers south-southeast of Ormara, and 260 kilometers southeast of Gwadar.
In light of the storm’s departure, the PMD has given permission for fishermen in Sindh to resume their activities at sea.
However, fishermen in Balochistan have been advised to avoid venturing into the deep sea for another day, as winds of 60-70 kilometers per hour may still occur in the aftermath of cyclone Asna.
PMD Director General Mehar Sahibzada Khan noted that the cyclone, which developed off the coast between Karachi and Gwadar, had the potential to cause heavy rainfall if it impacted the western coastal areas. However, with the cyclone now distant, sea breezes in Karachi are expected to return by evening or night.
The Met Office’s daily forecast for Karachi indicates partly cloudy skies with intermittent light rain or drizzle over the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 23.5°C, with a maximum temperature expected to reach between 30-32°C during the day. The humidity level was recorded at 91%.
