Sugar-free mangoes: Diabetics can now fearlessly enjoy ‘King of Fruits’
Three new varieties of sugar-free mangoes have been introduced in Pakistan after an expert scientifically modified the fruit in a private agriculture farm in Sindh’s Tando Allahyar.
The newly introduced varieties of sugar-free mangoes are ideal for diabetics, having four to six percent sugar level.
In local markets, these mangoes are available by the names of Sonaro, Glenn and Keitt.
In addition, the Keitt variety has the lowest sugar level up to 4.7%, while Sonaro and Glenn have sugar levels up to 5.6 % and 6% percent respectively.
Reportedly, the research on these modified mangoes was conducted for five years at a farm identified as M H Panhwar farms.
A person familiar with the whole scenario, revealed that the expert in organic farming had published a wide range of research articles and manuals on fruits
As per officials, The M H Panhwar Farms led research on and scientifically improved mangoes for five years and then introduced those three subsequent fruits.
The handiness of sugar-free mangoes is a relief for diabetics because most of the calories in mangoes come from sugar.
Previously the project was being managed personally and the experts were not taking any assistance from the government departments.
Later on, this was converted into a research farm for introducing new fruit crops suiting climate of Sindh, in 1985 and has developed many new varieties of fruit crops, which includes Mangoes, Lychee and many others which are rare in Pakistan.
