Lahore: Former Pakistani hockey player Naveed Alam, a member of the 1994 World Cup winning team has been diagnosed with blood cancer at the Shaukat Khanum Hospital.

The 47-year-old was not feeling well for several days and went to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital where doctors confirmed his illness.
The full-back has appealed to the government and sports bodies to assist him in the treatment.
Reportedly, health officials have given an estimate of Rs four million for the treatment.
It is pertinent to mention here that Naveed was part of the Pakistan team that won gold at the World Cup and FIH Champions Trophy in 1994.
Naveed competed in the Atlanta Olympics the same year and coached hockey teams from Bangladesh and China and served as the Pakistan Hockey Federation’s development director.
The 1996 Summer Olympics participant has coached the Pakistan, China and Bangladesh teams. He was also the head coach of the national team at the Beijing Olympics 2008.
Meanwhile, members of the Olympian Forum have begun arranging funds for Alam’s treatment.
