According to details, the Punjab’s capital has reported 50 cases of Covid’s highly infectious Indian delta variant raising serious concerns for the health authorities.

The provincial Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has confirmed that out of 73 samples, 50 tested positive for Covid’s delta variant showing an alarmingly high positivity ratio. The samples of suspected patients were taken from Lahore’s Jinnah, Mayo and Services hospitals.

The secretary health Sara Aslam has warned that delta variant spreads at 100 per cent faster rate than any other variant urging people to get vaccinated and follow coronavirus Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

“The only way to save yourself from Indian delta variant is by getting vaccinated,” she added.

On the other hand, the coronavirus positivity ratio in Lahore has surpassed more than 5 per cent.

The health experts say the delta variant is more contagious form of SARS-CoV-2 that has now been reported in 77 countries. They warn that it spreads rapidly and poses a serious threat to unvaccinated and partially vaccinated people.
