India’s Manipur crisis deepens amid ethnic clashes and blockade

(Web Desk): Manipur remains on edge as ethnic violence and tensions escalate, with a prolonged blockade on the state’s national highway severely disrupting essential supplies and transport.

According to Indian media reports, both Churachandpur—home to the Kuki-Zo community—and the capital Imphal are economically strained due to the blockade. The diversion of goods through Mizoram has led to a sharp rise in the prices of essential items.

Worried locals report a severe shortage of medical supplies as well.

Experts say the blockade is deeply linked to ongoing ethnic tensions and clashes, further complicating the region’s growing economic crisis.

A local resident stated that the blockade has significantly increased commodity prices and described the situation as extremely concerning.

Residents have appealed to ethnic communities for reconciliation in hopes of restoring normalcy. Social media is also flooded with reports of rising prices and shortages due to the blockade and ongoing ethnic violence.
