Washington DC: The United States said that it is watching Pakistan's election process closely, and wants freedom of expression to be respected in this process.

US State Department Deputy Spokesperson in Washington, Vedant Patel, stated in a press briefing that Pakistan's election process is being closely monitored.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State added that they are concerned about violent incidents, ban on media, internet freedom and obstruction of expression. They want freedom of expression to be respected in the election process.

He continued to say: “Pakistanis have the right to choose their leaders through free and fair elections, without fear, violence or intimidation. The people of Pakistan have to decide their political future”.

It is pertinent to note that general elections are scheduled in the country on February 8.
