Peshawar additional AC dies from Covid
Peshawar: Additional Assistant Commissioner Peshawar Shams-Ul-Islam contracted coronavirus and succumbed on May 18 (Tuesday).
Since last week, Shams-Ul-Islam was under treatment at the Hayatabad Medical Complex, and was on ventilator.
The additional assistant commissioner was deployed at the Pak-Afghan border in Torkham during the first wave of deadly virus in Pakistan.
He achieved provincial government award for his services.
Pakistan is presently experiencing the third wave of coronavirus which is said to be deadlier and more contagious than previous two waves.
According to National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), around 2,566 cases of coronavirus were reported while 135 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 19,752.
The total number of cases has reached 882,928.
As many as 795, 511 patients have recovered from the disease with 4,361 critical cases.
In Pakistan confirmed cases have been rising steeply since the middle of last year, but the true extent of the first outbreaks in 2020 is unclear because testing was not then widely available.
Meanwhile, the country has vaccinated 1,966,837people partially, while 964,227 individuals are fully vaccinated.
Total 3,836,291 doses of coronavirus jabs has been administered.
Country carried out record 12,510,568 coronavirus tests in a single day.
