JUI(F) requests 60 days to hold intra-party elections

Islamabad: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl-ur-Rehman (JUI-F) Wednesday requested 60 days to hold intra-party elections.

A three-member commission under the chairmanship of the Chief Election Commissioner took up the case. On this occasion, a junior lawyer appeared on behalf of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F).

During the hearing, JUI(F)'s lawyer took the stand that his party's elections are being conducted in phases. Most of the time is spent in the selection of district units. We have submitted the documents, which have the election schedule.

Lawyer JUI(F) told the Election Commission that the process of intra-party elections has started from July, 60 days should be given for the process.

The Chief Election Commissioner remarked that 60 days is too long. On which the lawyer JUI(F) took the stand that the matter of constitutional reforms was going on, which was the reason for the busyness.

ECP Chief Sikandar Sultan Raja said that constitutional reforms have nothing to do with intra-party elections. JUI (F) is holding federal elections on September 29, after which you will not get respite.

Later, the Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the case, the date of the hearing to be announced later.

On August 29, the ECP remarked during the hearing of the intra-party election case against JUI(F) that the party's organizational structure had been destroyed when the time for holding intra-party elections was completed.

A day earlier, during the hearing of the case, the ECP had summoned Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman for not holding an intra-party election. The commission stated that JUI(F) has not yet completed the intra-party elections nor submitted the certificate to the Election Commission.
