Covid-19 haunts the world with a new variant
Geneva: World Health Organization’s (WHO) monitoring unit revealed that a new “Mu” variant is under scrutiny.
The health monitoring organization reported that ‘Mu’ was first identified in January 2021, since then WHO has kept it under strict check.
On Tuesday, The Global Health Bulletin reported, “Mu, known scientifically as B.1.621, has been indexed as a variant of interest”.
This new variant has penchant for mutation that shows its capacity to escape immunity and resist vaccine.
Global rate of Covid-19 has plummeted to 0.1 percent.
Besides “Mu”, there are four other variants of deadly coronavirus that are still being monitored.
Meanwhile, South African scientists are probing beta variant of Covid-19 that whether it is contagious or not.
Beta variant, scientifically known as C.1.2 was reported in May and has spread in many provinces of South Africa.
Scientists are in oblivion on its effect on virus’ behavior.
The vaccination drive in country started with a slow pace, and it has, hitherto, vaccinated just 14 percent of its adult population.
