Kolkata’s town turns Venice, residents go fishing on waterlogged streets
To everyone’s surprise, the residents actually caught some big fish including Katla (Carp) on waterlogged streets.
Following highest September rainfall in over a decade, torrential rains lashed Kolkata and neighbouring districts since Monday, throwing normal life out of gear. However, to everyone’s surprise, the locals actually caught some big fish including Katla (Carp) on waterlogged streets.
Reportedly, more than 100 mm rain was recorded at different places in the city from 1 am to 7 am, submerging many important thoroughfares and low-lying areas under knee-deep water.
While, West Bengal’s rainfall figures have breached multiple milestones this season.
Even though the heavy rains have taken a backseat for a while in Kolkata, several areas of the city continue to remain flooded.
Even after the showers have now stopped, despite misery and agony over the deluged streets, a few locals tried to find some solace in catching fish water-logged streets. Several others rushed to social media to share photographs and videos of the flooding, which showed people swimming in waist-deep water or travelling to work on boats.
In a video going viral, a few locals in New Town are seen casting nets on the main road.

As per locals, the fish may have reached the streets after water in ponds nearby spilled over amid rains.
