The move stems from a disagreement between K-Electric and the Energy Department, exacerbating challenges such as the disposal of sacrificial animal waste

Karachi: K-Electric on Saturday took action to disconnect electricity supply to various Sindh government departments due to unpaid dues and overdue bills, causing disruptions ahead of Eidul Adha preparations in Karachi.
The latest reports suggested that electricity supply to 25 Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) in Karachi was halted.
The move stems from a disagreement between K-Electric and the Energy Department, exacerbating challenges such as the disposal of sacrificial animal waste.
Earlier warnings by K-Electric, the city's primary power provider, had alerted the Sindh government about potential electricity cutoffs if outstanding dues were not settled promptly. A letter addressed to the Sindh chief secretary and secretary of energy cited dues amounting to Rs1.7 billion from various departments of the provincial government.
The letter included a list of 64 departments in default and urged the government to settle the outstanding amounts immediately to avoid further disruptions in electricity supply.
The Sindh government and K-Electric had previously agreed upon terms for clearing dues and current bills back in 2019.
