Magistrate instructs medical board to complete exhumation within next seven days

Karachi: A judicial magistrate has ordered the exhumation of the body of 23-year-old Mustafa Amir, who was kidnapped and allegedly murdered by his friends earlier this year. The magistrate also instructed a medical board to complete the exhumation within the next seven days.
Amir was abducted from Karachi's DHA area on January 6, and his family received a ransom call two weeks later. During the investigation, police arrested a suspect named Armaghan following a shoot-out. Armaghan later claimed that Amir was murdered by his friends. He was remanded to police custody by an anti-terrorism court (ATC), while another suspect, Shavez Bukhari, was presented in court for questioning.
On January 12, a burned body was discovered in a torched car in Hub. Balochistan police handed the body over to the Edhi Foundation, which buried it at the Edhi graveyard in Karachi on January 16. The body was initially unidentified.
Following a court hearing today, Judicial Magistrate Syeda Urooj Fatimah Naqvi approved the request for exhumation, which had been filed by Investigation Officer Muhammad Ali. The magistrate directed the formation of a medical board to complete the exhumation process within seven days.
Previously, Amir’s mother had filed a petition seeking to have her son’s body exhumed. However, the ATC advised her to approach the judicial magistrate, as only a magistrate can order such a procedure.
In a separate development, three police officers were suspended and demoted for mishandling the case, further complicating the investigation into Amir’s abduction and death.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding the tragic incident.
