Sindh government took another U-turn on its decision regarding reopening of schools and universities in the province that were shut on July 24. The new notification is the third such announcement within a week.

As per official notification, public and private educational institutes will remain closed till further orders. The government sources say a decision to reopen schools and universities will be made on August 30.

Earlier on Friday, the provincial government had announced all public and private varsities across Sindh would stay closed for a week. Its notification said the universities would reopen on August 30.

Before that, the government announced that it would allow to reopen educational institutes by August 23.

In Sindh, all educational institutions were closed from the last week of July. Later, after the surge in Covid-19 cases, strict lockdown was imposed in the province from August 1 to August 8, but it was not extended.

As per notification, the private and government educational institutions will remain closed but exams of different classes would be held as per the schedule.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah had said that schools across the province will reopen on August 23.

Shah said that the schools would reopen with only 50% of students in attendance, while the educational institutions that have a full vaccination rate will be allowed a 100% student strength.

“Closing and reopening schools was not the solution and a different method should be adopted which does not harm the students' education,” he added.
