Extreme climate leads to malaria cases in Pakistan
Since last year’s flood malaria infection cases have increased four times to up to 1.6 million in Pakistan.
Islamabad: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), deaths caused by malaria infection have increased rapidly in Pakistan and Malawi due to severe weather effects.
According to head of WHO Peter Sands, since last year’s flood malaria infection cases have increased four times to up to 1.6 million in Pakistan.
Peter Sands stated that malaria cases have rapidly spiked in Malawi due to torrential rains. The organization says that this year there is an opportunity to sound the alarm on World Malaria Day.
The organization head Peter said efforts are still needed to end the worsening malaria situation as the ponds formed after rains in Pakistan and Malawi are becoming ideal breeding grounds for malaria mosquitoes.
